Clay Plain Tiles
Eternit clay tiles can be used for roofing and vertical cladding in both new and refurbishment work. The small size of the tiles, 265x165mm, and the range of fittings makes them ideal for creative roof designs.
The tiles have two projections at the back - called 'nibs' - which allow the tile to be hung onto a batten, and two nail holes which allow nailing if added security is required. The tiles are laid broken bonded and double lapped to ensure that water is kept out of the roof; they do not interlock at either the top or the side of the tile. This absence of an interlock permits more flexible roof design.
Properties
Eternit clay tiles are unaffected by extremes of heat and cold. To compensate for movement induced by large temperature fluctuations, tiles should be laid with a slight gap not exceeding 3mm.
Clay tiles are unaffected by prolonged exposure to ultra violet light.
Eternit clay tiles are fired at very high temperatures ensuring a very dense composition. Water absorption is thus very much reduced so that moss and lichen build up is less than experienced with standard concrete tiles.
Clay tiles are non-combustible.
Product range
Acme machine made clay plain tiles are produced in both a smooth
and sand faced finish. The tile comes in a double camber format which helps discharge water quickly from the surface and breaks up the visual aspect of the roof line adding greater texture to each course.
Hawkins machine made clay plain tiles have a sand faced finish and straight edges. The tile has a single camber in the longitudinal direction
Special hip, valley and ridge tiles are available to suit all applications.
