Eternit Slate

General Information

Eternit slates are manufactured from fibre cement materials and are primarily based on three following components:

  1. Portland Cement - the principal component and functions as a hydraulic binding agent.
  2. Mineral Aggregates - added to obtain the typical high quality product properties.
  3. Reinforcing fibres - The mechanical properties of fibre cement are determined by the interaction between reinforcing fibres and the cement matrix.

Advantages of Eternit Slate

Alterna Slate

Eternit manufactures Alterna slate as a flat rectangular or diamond shaped slate featuring straight edges which are ideally suite for high quality architectural roofing, facades, bay windows as well as vertical cladding. The range of Alterna sizes, its easy workability, and various installation methods offers real design scope for a diversity of exciting architectural requirements.

Appearance

Alterna slates display an EVEN FLAT FACE and straight edges. They are available in a number of different sizes and formats to suit a variety of architectural designs and applications including vertical and curved cladding. The 600x320 and 450x320 have cropped corners at one end which gives the appearance or reduced width. These slates are reversible so that the square corners can also be visible. Effective patterns can be made utilising these slates to create individual styling. The 600x300 is a standard rectangular slate pre-holed for ease of fixing. The 400x400 is a diamond shape and is also pre-holed.

Fixing

All slates are fixed with two nails and one crampon. Because the 600x320 and 450x320 are reversible they have to be holed on site to suit the lap and orientation of the slate.

New Stonit Slate

Eternit manufactures New Stonit slate with a unique 'inclined saw' cutting process which replicates the authentic riven effect of a dressed or chipped edge natural slate. New Stonit slate is the nearest alternative to natural slate with its crafted, TEXTURED FACE AND CHIPPED EDGES making it indistinquishable from the real thing. Such attention to detail provides conclusive proof that the physical characteristics of fiber cement can be harnassed to approximate the beauty of natural slate.
